Elton John introduces the three young boys who will alternate in the lead of Billy Elliot: The Musical at the press event held at the Professional Performing Arts High School in New York City on Tuesday. (The musical is based on the 2000 film of the same name. The music for the musical was composed by Elton.)
Pictured left to right: Trent Kowalik, David Alvarez, and Kiril Kulish.
“Trent is probably one of the most genius tap dancers we’ve ever come across, so he’s had to learn ballet,” says Mr. Daldry, who directed the movie. “David and Kiril are exceptional ballet dancers; these are probably the best kids in the world right now, but they’ve had to learn tap.”
According to the New York Times, the show changes depending on the boy: the choreography is different, and some of the music varies. Dang it! That just means I need to see this show three times!!!
Billy Elliot: The Musical opens officially at the Imperial Theater on October 1. For additional coverage of the boys of Billy Elliot, check out NYTimes.com.
