Jude Law Promotes Peace In Kabul

Jude Law promotes Peace Day at the UNAMA office in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan (UNAMA = United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan).

The 35-year-old British actor, along with British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley, returned to Afghanistan after their successful mission last year. Once again, in conjunction with UNICEF and UNAMA, they made a ‘call to action’ 21 days before Peace Day, September 21st, an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence, in order to galvanize the people of Afghanistan to observe the Day.

“The extraordinary events in Afghanistan around Peace Day last year set an important precedent. Jeremy and I are returning to the country this year to help keep the momentum going,” said Jude. “As an ambassador for Peace One Day and as a filmmaker myself, I hope that my involvement will help the project to grow. I’m proud to be part of it.”

He added, “When I left Kabul last year, I was hugely moved not by the conflict that I have read so much about, but by the people’s courage and the people’s sense of hope. It seemed that they really want to make this day, the Peace Day, work. And they did. People recognize the day, because they recognize that lives could be saved.”

‘90210′ — The Reviews Are In!

Labels:

The first reviews are in from last nigiht’s two-hour premiere of the much-buzzed-about 90210. Check it.

“90210 is a perfectly competent and reasonably seamless revival that understands what made the original tick (and tick and tick), while being infused (occasionally suffused) with enough contemporary touchstones to remind new viewers that this isn’t their parents’ (or at least older siblings’) trusty fave… 90210 is not a disaster, and the CW can now officially let out a deep … sigh … of relief.” — Newsday

“More than just a famous zip code, 90210 is easily the most hyped show of the fall season and the CW is banking on all of the buzz to draw in big ratings. This spinoff, eight years after the first series ended, is a pallid copy of the original fish out of water story only with shinier cars, fancier clothes and Botox aplenty.” — Variety

“All the expected ingredients were there: gorgeous teens, lots of style and extravagance, raging hormones, and always the potential for backstabbing, broken hearts and payback. Same old, same old at West Beverly Hills High School.”– AP

WHAT DID YOU THINK of the two-hour premiere of 90210 — YAY or NAY?

Sarah Palin: Babies, Lies & Scandal

Labels:

John McCain’s vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin, takes this week’s cover of Us Weekly, along with newborn Trig, afflicted with Down syndrome. The mag talks about her firm stance on antiabortion (even in cases of rape) and her opposition to sex-education classes (she believes in abstinence instruction for teens).

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, recently spoke about the vetting of Palin with CNN. He sang praises of Palin, saying, “She’s got the domestic experience, and she’s got the judgment. And she’s got what John McCain, I know, finds very attractive, which is a real independent spirit and a person who can produce results.”

“Barack Obama is not ready. Barack Obama’s never run a city, never run a state, never run an agency, never run a business, never made a payroll, has never really negotiated, which is why he makes so many mistakes on how to negotiate. You know, negotiate without preconditions, that’s absurd.

“Based on what I know, she was thoroughly vetted. I think John knew her, knew what she accomplished in Alaska, a lot of it has been an open book. I think the issues that are coming out now, all the ones that I have heard so far, are ones that he knew in advance, talked to her about it on Friday. And, he has confidence — this is after all the main criteria of getting selected as vice president, the presidential candidate has to have confidence that you’ve got what he needs to accomplish the job.”

Double Your Sarah Palin Pleasure

Labels:

Both Republicans and Democrats will be pleased that OK! Magazine is going with a double cover this week.

The Sarah Palin cover highlights both baby scandals the family is facing. The cover story will delve into how Sarah’s standing by her 17-year-old pregnant daughter Bristol plus the “real truth” about her baby son Trig, who has Down Syndrome.

The Barack Obama cover is a tad more lighthearted with the Democratic nominee talking about life with his daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. The girls apparently get Harry Potter read to them before bed and have their parents sit front row at their dance recitals.

And guess who’s on the cover of Us Weekly this week too? Yep, Palin!

Lindsay Lohan Blogs Bristol Palin Pregnancy

Labels:

Lindsay Lohan just blogged about the pregnancy of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter Bristol. Here’s what she wrote in her political blog entry:

“I’ve been watching the news all morning, like everyone else - and I keep hearing about the issues related to ‘teen pregnancy’- It’s all related to Sarah Palin and her 17-year-old unmarried pregnant daughter. Well, I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place. Its distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences.

“I am concerned with the fact that Sarah Palin brought the attention to her daughter’s pregnancy, rather than all world issues and what she believes she could possibly do to change them-if elected. I get Sarah Palin’s views against abortion, but i would much prefer to hear more about what she can do for our country rather than how her daughter is going to have a child no matter what. Maybe focus on delivering some words and policy with stronger impact like Joe Biden.”

Lindsay also quoted Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who was born to an 18-year-old mother. He said, “Let me be as clear as possible. I think people’s families are off-limits, and people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president. [Reporters should] back off these kinds of stories. How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that’s off-limits.”

LiLo then finished off her blog post with a bit of parental advice, urging moms and dads to talk to their kids about sex. She said, “I heard a woman say on Today on NBC that teens are feeling as if they have to grow up faster. Really? Because, I think that girls that are CHOOSING to be sexually active and are making a conscious decision to grow up faster….. I think that parents need to recognize how important it is to talk to their children about the things that can result from being sexually active if they aren’t protecting themselves (birth control, condoms, etc.)”
