The moon's shadow darkens part of Earth during a solar eclipse. Only people underneath the center of that dark spot will see the total eclipse; others will see a partial eclipse. This shot was taken from the Mir space station in August 1999.

Earth seems to fill the sky in this image taken by the crew of Apollo 17 in 1972. The picture marked the first time astronauts were able to photograph the south polar ice cap.

The moon is caught between Earth and the space shuttle Discovery in this photo taken in 1988. This shuttle mission marked the return of U.S. Senator—and pioneering astronaut—John Glenn to space.

Clouds ripple across the Indian Ocean in this photograph taken from the space shuttle Discovery in 1999. This shuttle mission, STS-96, lasted 9 days, 19 hours, 13 minutes, and 57 seconds and covered 3.8 million miles (6.1 million kilometers).

This photo was the world's first view of Earth taken near the moon. It was snapped by the U.S. Lunar Orbiter I on August 23, 1966, when the spacecraft was just about to pass behind the moon on its 16th orbit.

The moon's lunar highlands (light areas) and maria, or volcanic plains, (dark areas) are clearly visible in this photograph taken by the Expedition 10 crew onboard the International Space Station.

Rihanna and Maroon 5 Team Up for a Collab

Labels:

Rihanna and Maroon 5 are teaming up for an ultra-glam remake of “If I Never See Your Face Again”, which will appear on the re-releases of both big-name artists.

“We’re both re-releasing our albums — mine’s out June 17,” Rihanna told MTV News. “This is the only collaboration on my re-release, because I always wanted to work with Maroon 5. They’re one of my favorite bands. When they called me to do this record with them, I was so honored.”

“The song was basically done, but we wanted to try something different, so we had her come in and do bits and pieces,” Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine added. “It came together so quick. The only other collaboration I had done before was with Kanye, and it was the same way. It sounds cheesy, but if the magic is there, if the chemistry is there, you don’t even have to think about it.”

Adam and Rihanna give MTV a behind-the-scenes look at the new video and open up about their experiences. Check it.

Jennifer Garner - May 2008 Self Magazine

Labels:

Jennifer Garner gives us her patented smile and lets her guard down in the May 2008 issue of Self.

Jen, 36, talks about the love of daughter Violet, 2, husband Ben Affleck, 35, sunscreen and the summer!

On summer being her favorite season: “What’s not to love about summer? I love all the fruit that’s available. I love the farmers’ market. I love that everybody relaxes a bit more. You can feel it in their face and demeanor. People leave work a little earlier.”

On being the sunscreen carrier in the Garner-Affleck family: “Yes, I am, like it or not. As the woman in the family, whether you’re the daughter, sister, wife or mother, you’re kind of in charge of having sunscreen in your bag and making sure your family is protected. And I buy everybody big, floppy sun hats.”

On growing their own food: “Yes! We planted a garden last spring. Half the stuff dies, half the stuff lives, but I’m happy with it. We had huge eggplants! And there’s nothing like fresh tomatoes. And the herbs? Heaven! I grow all different kinds of basil and thyme. I always have rosemary and Italian parsley.”

On everyone thinking she is always pregnant:
“Yes, everyone continues to think that I’m two months pregnant. But at this point, it’s just laziness! I think your body shifts. If I gained weight before, it didn’t go to my stomach. Now it’ll go to my stomach and lower half. Where I used to be flat, now — when I wear a T-shirt — you see a little bit of normal person.”
